Robert Hendershott, Ph.D., is a Managing Director of the Context BH Equity Fund, a private equity fund that invests in well-capitalized community banks operating in underserved markets with proven management teams, and high growth potential. Along with over a decade of experience investing in the community banking market, Robert brings a tremendous amount of industry knowledge and insight to the Fund. The Fund’s portfolio currently includes 27 banks, with as many as a dozen additional banks planned for 2009.
Prior to launching the Context BH Equity Fund, Dr. Hendershott spent eight years helping develop and implement long term community bank-based investment strategies for a prominent hedge fund. These targeted market-neutral strategies evolved to include almost 100 bank stocks and positions in excess of $200 million.
In addition to his position with the Context BH Equity Fund, Dr. Hendershott serves as a finance professor at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California. Named a Hennringer Family Fellow in 2001, his academic research has focused on private equity, entrepreneurial finance and bank consolidation. Dr. Hendershott’s research has been published in a number of articles in finance and investment journals including the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Investment Management, and Real Estate Finance.
Dr. Hendershott received his BSEE from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in finance from the Ohio State University.
